2015 Annual General Meeting & Political Affairs Media Panel
The Business Council was joined by a diverse representation of our membership for our 49th Annual General Meeting & Political Affairs Media Panel on June 11, 2015 at the Vancouver Club. The AGM business was chaired by Jonathan Whitworth and included recognizing the important contributions of our retiring and current Executive Committee Members and Board of Governors as well as welcoming some new faces to our governing bodies. A special acknowledgement goes to Harold Munro, Editor-in-Chief of the Vancouver Sun for moderating the Political Affairs Media Panel and we extend our appreciation to our panelists: Keith Baldrey, Legislative Bureau Chief at Global BC, Wendy Cox, BC Editor at the Globe and Mail and Les Leyne, Political Columnist at the Times Colonist for an engaging discussion regarding the state of politics in BC, Alberta and Canada.
Third Annual Chair's Dinner
On May 13, 2015, the Business Council hosted the Third Annual Chair's Dinner at the Pan Pacific Vancouver. Elyse Allan, President and CEO of GE Canada delivered an exceptional keynote address regarding the market dynamics impacting the future of work, including the internet of things, the emergence of the global brain and advanced manufacturing. The sold out crowd also enjoyed a 3D printing demonstration which produced busts of our Chair, Jonathan Whitworth, as well as our lead sponsor and event participants. Exports: Putting BC to Work Forum
On April 9, 2015 the Business Council, in partnership with CKNW hosted EXPORTS: Putting BC to Work featuring an address from Benoit Daignault, President and Chief Executive Officer, Export Development Canada. This event focused on the importance of British Columbia's trade and export activities for our economic prosperity and featured a panel discussion among key business leaders from various export sectors. Member Forum: Annual Post-Budget 2015 Briefing with Honourable Michael de Jong, Minister of Finance

BC Business Summit 2014
The second annual Business Summit: Building BC for the 21st Century - Innovation in Infrastructure was held on November 7, 2014 and featured national and international speakers and panelists exploring the role of infrastructure in our economy and how we can advance a strategic infrastructure plan for British Columbia.
Second Annual Chair's Dinner featuring Kishore Mahbubani
The Second Annual BCBC Chair’s Dinner brought together British Columbia’s senior business leadership on May 20th for an enlightening evening exploring global issues facing our province’s economy. Following on last year’s guest speakers, Premier Christy Clark and Dominic Barton, Managing Director, McKinsey & Company, we were pleased to present Professor Kishore Mahbubani, Dean of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore. An author and academic, Professor Mahbubani is an expert in international affairs, Asia and the West. He has served as President of the UN Security Council, was listed by the Financial Times as one of the Top 50 Individuals who would shape the debate on the future of capitalism and has been named one of Foreign Policy's top Global Thinkers. His latest book, The Great Convergence: Asia, The West and the Logic of One World, was selected by the Financial Times as one of the best books of 2013. Professor Mahbubani shared with us his insights on how Asia is reemerging as a global economic powerhouse by understanding and implementing what he calls the seven pillars of western wisdom.
Putting BC to Work Forum presented by BCBC and CKNW
On April 24, the Business Council and CKNW hosted the Putting BC to Work Forum featuring Canadian economist, Don Drummond and business and education leaders to discuss British Columbia's labour market landscape, and opportunities and challenges for educating, attracting and retaining human capital. The forum was part of CKNW's month long on-air programme campaign Putting BC to Work.
BC Business Summit
On November 12th and 13th, we brought together senior municipal, federal and provincial government officials, as well as business , economic, and First Nations thought leaders from across the province and from every business sector to explore the opportunities and most pressing challenges facing our economy today...and tomorrow.
In its first year, the BC Business Summit 2013: Building Prosperity through a Competitive Economy, explored issues of competitiveness, human capital, economic opportunity and productivity through a series of presentations, breakout sessions and engaging panel discussions.
BCBC Member Forum featuring Ambassador Gary Doer
On June 25th, Canada's Ambassador to the United States provided an update to BCBC members about his work and the priority files as Canada's representative to our largest trading partner.

Newly elected Premier Christy Clark and Global Managing Director of leading consulting agency, McKinsey & Company, Dominic Barton addressed members of the Business Council at the 47th Annual General Meeting held May 28th, 2013.
Former British Columbian and Asia Expert , Dominic Barton, Global Managing Director of McKinsey and Company delivered an important message for all British Columbians to hear:
‘It is time to accelerate our relations and opportunities with Asia or we risk being left further behind.’
He offered specific recommendations and seven priorities for our province to pursue to improve our opportunities in and with Asia. The Business Council will continue to reflect on this insightful commentary and weave it into our own communications with government and stakeholders as we continue to push for a policy landscape which supports British Columbia’s ability to compete nationally and internationally.

BC Agenda for Shared Prosperity Summit - April 5th, 2013 Vancouver
On April 5th, the Business Council of British Columbia with the BC Chamber of Commerce hosted the BC Agenda for Shared Prosperity Summit: The Circle of Prosperity. The event brought together business, non-profit, regional community leaders and first nations to discuss global social economic shifts, models for institutional reform and the policies needed to create a more prosperous future for all British Columbians.
Feature speakers included Kevin Rudd, former Prime Minister of Australia, Christina Romer, former Chair, Council of Economic Advisors to President Obama, Zanny Minton-Beddoes, Economics Editor, The Economist Magazine and David Dodge, former Governor of the Bank of Canada.

BCBC Policy Conference: Powering Canadian Prosperity: BC's Energy Opportunities
The Business Council of British Columbia was pleased to bring together leading energy industry analysts, government officials and CEOs from across the country for Powering Canadian Prosperity: BC’s Energy Opportunities. This special half-day conference featured respected energy expert Peter Tertzakian of ARC Financial Corporation, former federal Environment Minister Jim Prentice, plus Lorraine Mitchelmore of Shell Canada, Premier Christy Clark and a host of panelists on will examine the urgent need to leverage BC’s energy opportunities for the long term benefit of all British Columbians and Canadians.

This year's AGM opened with a panel discussion featuring Mayor Diane Watts of Surrey and Mayor Greg Moore of Port Coquitlam and Chair of the Metro Vancouver Board.

The Business Council of British Columbia hosted British Columbia's Gateway: Realizing Canda's Asia Pacific Opportunity which brought together the country's leading CEO's, government officials and community leaders to highlight and reflect on the components of the country's success with Asia and explore how we can capitalize on the the opportunitiies to advance the province's prospertity during what some are now calling The Asian Century.
