SUBMISSION: Response to Labour Relations Code Review Panel Report

The Business Council of British Columbia is pleased to provide this response to the report produced by the panel of special advisers appointed by the Minister of Labour to examine the provincial Labour Relations Code. We appreciate the work done by the Review Panel, including the recognition the Panel gives to the importance of achieving and sustaining an overall “balance” in the legislation governing labour relations and collective bargaining in British Columbia.

While we acknowledge the government’s commitment to consult with the community before embarking on any amendments to the Labour Relations Code, the Business Council is concerned about some of the amendments proposed by the Review Panel and the effect that changing the Code may have on employers and the investment climate in British Columbia. We also wish to emphasize the need for the government to consult broadly before undertaking significant changes to the Code.
