Statement: National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

September 30, 2021

The first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is a time to reflect on the lived experiences of generations of Indigenous people in Canada and British Columbia. It is a time for contemplation of what we can each do as individuals and in our communities to contribute to progress on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 calls to action.

The Business Council of B.C. continues to collaborate with Indigenous partners, including through our MOU with the B.C. Assembly of First Nations, to advance economic reconciliation and the full participation of Indigenous people in the economic future of B.C., and to close the social and economic gaps between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people.

The tragic discoveries of lost children at residential schools across Canada is a reminder of the truth of our shared history and the work ahead of us. We are committed to walking the path of reconciliation with our Indigenous partners to ensure the atrocities of the past are not forgotten, and together, we will lift up the next generation of Indigenous children to live a life of opportunity denied to so many before them.
