Shortly after Federico’s closed, Jock Finlayson, executive vice-president of the Business Council of B.C., wrote in The Vancouver Sun that “the reality is that parts of our economy are shutting down,” especially sectors such as hospitality, entertainment, travel and retail.
“Economywide spending is set to plunge as businesses curtail operations, many people practise social distancing, the tourism business collapses, and most consumers stop making discretionary purchases. This will rapidly lead to disappearing jobs and tens of thousands of financially destroyed companies across the province,” Finlayson predicted on March 23.
