Canadian Biomass Magazine: Meeting Canada’s green targets is a tall order, say Business Council of B.C. execs

It will be a tall order for Canada to meet its aggressive green targets, say a pair of officials from the Business Council of British Columbia.

Writing in The Battlefords News-Optimists, Jock Finlayson and Denise Mullen, respectively the council’s executive vice-president and director of environment and sustainability, say Canada isn’t known for its speed and efficiency, and suggest the country must expand electricity from greenhouse gas-free sources to meet the federal government’s climate policy goals.

“Consumers want low-cost, on-demand electricity every minute of the day, not just when the wind blows or the sun shines,” they write. “Thus, to ensure reliability, a mix of generation sources is necessary.”
