Although powered mainly by carbon-free hydro power, British Columbia is the only jurisdiction in Canada that does not give natural-resource exporters the opportunity to offset their provincial carbon tax, Greg D’Avignon, president and CEO of the Business Council of B.C., said on Tuesday. B.C. producers are charged more extensively than their competitors, both provincially and internationally.

The business council, meanwhile, believes that protecting businesses from paying the entirety of the carbon tax, instead leveraging tactics such as carbon trading and carbon offsets, would incentivize companies. The Vancouver Sun has details.
