National Post: Liberal budget should avoid worsening Canada's economic decline

A December report by the Business Council of British Columbia analyzed OECD’s findings and reached a bleak conclusion: “Past generations of young Canadians entering the workforce could look forward to favourable tailwinds lifting real incomes over their working lives. That’s no longer the case… On average, Canadian living standards and our quality of life relative to other countries are set to decline as other countries make their economies more productive.”

Ensuring these predictions do not come to pass should be the new federal budget’s number one priority. If OECD’s predictions prove true, it’ll be devastating for generations of Canadians and undermine efforts to focus on and fund all other priorities, including health care, climate change, affordability and defence spending.
