The Business Council is focused on key themes to advance British Columbia’s economic prosperity and competitiveness.

Our core work is robust, evidence-based analysis of the issues that affect British Columbia's prosperity and competitiveness. Our priorities are established through member consultation and focus on critical issues including:

  • Creating a more competitive economy through effective tax, trade and infrastructure policies & strategies.
  • Establishing a strategic human capital policy that enables talent attraction, development & retention.
  • Leveraging our natural assets to advance solutions to the climate & energy challenges in a lower carbon world while ensuring sustainable access to the land base.
  • Accelerating economic reconciliation and capacity building with Indigenous communities.
  • Developing a vision and policy agenda for B.C. which supports greater innovation and productivity in the knowledge economy.
  • Unparalleled early stage dialogue and collaboration on public policy formation with provincial and federal decision makers.
  • Peer networking opportunities within the B.C. business community.
  • Access to intimate Roundtables and Forums where business and government meet to discuss pressing issues and innovative ideas.
  • The opportunity to participate on the Council’s Committees and Advisory Groups, which help shape the business community’s priorities and inform positions on key issues.
  • Access to the Council’s economic and policy analyses, research and opinion pieces, including regular economic forecasts and information on key global, national and local policy trends and economic issues.

COMMITTEES

Members have the opportunity to engage in all facets of the Business Council’s policy work and advocacy by participating in our issues-based committees and advisory groups, which help inform the council’s work on key areas of interest. These working groups are made up of Council members, representing the majority of B.C.’s top employers. The input of members ensures that committees are focused on relevant business issues and are informed by on-the-ground experience and practical policy matters.

EVENTS

From in-camera member-only meetings to larger forums and conferences, the Business Council regularly hosts events where members gain insights from leading guest speakers, including senior elected and government officials, global CEOs, business leaders, and subject matter experts.
