BCBC Statement on 2024 B.C. Election Results

The Business Council of British Columbia (BCBC) congratulates the BC NDP on their victory and extends our congratulations to all newly elected and returning Members of the Legislative Assembly. We also express our appreciation to all candidates in the provincial election, acknowledging the time and dedication it takes to run for public office.

The election results underscore that affordability is a top concern for British Columbians. Amid significant economic challenges, it’s essential we look to B.C.’s most productive industries as part of the solution. These include export-oriented sectors like natural resources, manufacturing, forestry, energy, mining, and agriculture, which provide some of the highest-paying jobs in the province.

Equally important is our gateway sector—comprising marine ports, airports, railways, and road networks—that underpins B.C.’s pivotal role in Canada’s trade with the Asia-Pacific region. Together, these sectors contribute around two-thirds of B.C.’s export earnings, directly and indirectly supporting living standards across the province.

Moving forward, stability and growth will be crucial to maintaining an attractive business environment in B.C. As a non-partisan organization, BCBC stands ready to work with policymakers to create a life people can afford in B.C. We are optimistic that, by working together, we can continue to build a more prosperous province for current and future generations.
